Phil is dedicated to advancing the Hydrogen Economy by promoting safety as its core tenant. He’s a certified safety professional and certified industrial hygienist who’s worked in the safety and health industry for the last 15 years. For the first 5 years of his career, he was the industrial hygienist for the Navy SEALs and the Naval helicopter maintenance and repair teams on the West Coast.
But for the last decade, Phil has provided safety expertise and conducted advanced risk assessments for renewable hydrogen research, supporting researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory as they’ve pioneered advancements in catalyst development, dispensing efficiency, and reliability testing amongst other contributions to the industry.
Phil's passion for helping people efficiently navigate safety requirements has led him to start up his training, consulting, and software company, Omitz, to help engineers and startups more easily navigate codes and standards.

Reformed Bureaucrat
My mission is to help others optimize efficiency and avoid needless bureaucracy.
Omitz Insight Engine
Creating Omitz's Insight Engine is my way of making amends for all my bureaucratic transgresses.
First job out of graduate school. Amazing experience (I was the industrial hygienist for the Navy SEALs on the West Coast and got to wear body armor!).
Started my disdain for wordy regulations early in my career. I jumped into the app craze and started an auditing company to help people conduct field audits.
I landed my dream job working with researchers advance renewably generated hydrogen in the Department of Energy who were building the future of energy.
H2 @ Scale...Toyota Mirai...all of a sudden, things begin to pick up speed in the hydrogen world.
Omitz is finally born! Taking inspiration from Strunk and White's classic Elements of Style,
regulations will never be the same after we're done with them.
